Scott is most widely known for his trombone playing and teaching. He is a member of iTromboni, one of Canada’s most entertaining and versatile chamber music ensembles. He has been the trombone instructor at the University of Victoria and the Principal Bass Trombonist with the Vancouver Island Symphony since 2006. When Scott puts the trombone down, he can be found directing the BC Brass Collective as well as the UVic Vikes Band. He is tremendously honoured to be able to work with the fantastic musicians that constitute the Meridiem Wind Orchestra.
The MWO was inaugurated in the Spring of 2013. One of the first steps in the formation of the ensemble was to find the most influential, inspirational and legendary music director in the city of Victoria. That man was Dr. George Corwin.
Dr. Corwin moved to Victoria in 1969 to help develop the fledgling Music Department at the University of Victoria campus. He brought with him nearly 10 years of experience learning and teaching in New York, including time spent at the highly esteemed Eastman School of Music. He was central to the design of the Farquhar Auditorium in the University Center which opened in 1978. He retired from his UVic position in 1995. He travelled to Thailand to direct the orchestra at Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn University in 1994 and he directed many local ensembles including the Victoria Gilbert & Sullivan Society, the Victoria Operatic Society and the Civic Orchestra of Victoria. He formed his ensemble, the Concentus Corvinus in 1997 and continued to direct ensembles up to his passing in 2020.
